On Wednesday, Jan. 3, around 7:30 p.m., Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Fairview Road in reference to a possible drunk driver parked in the road. The driver, Keith Duvall Kearney, was asleep behind the steering wheel of his vehicle. Deputies smelled the odor of alcohol emanating from Kearney.

Deputies asked Kearney if he had anything to drink, and he told them he had a few shots between 30 minutes and an hour before driving his vehicle.

Kearney agreed to a field sobriety test but failed to complete any of the exercises. Kearney then became belligerent and began cussing at deputies. Deputies then located alcohol in Kearney’s vehicle.

Kearney was transported to the Marianna Police Department where deputies attempted to acquire a breath sample from him but were unsuccessful.

Throughout the course of the investigation, deputies learned that Kearney has three prior DUIs, one in 1981, one in 1986, and one in 2007.

Kearney was arrested and is being charged with Driving Under the Influence.
