It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to a remarkable soul, David Spears who left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and owner of Spears Electrical & Refrigeration, and retired Master Sergeant in the Air Force, his legacy echoes through the lessons he imparted and the love he shared.
Born on January 24, 1938, David dedicated his life to service, both to his country and to the people around him. As a Master Sergeant in the Air Force, he exemplified discipline, honor, and unwavering commitment. His military career not only shaped him but also inspired those fortunate enough to witness his leadership.
A cornerstone of David’s life was his deep faith, loving God with all his heart. He served as a deacon at Bethel Baptist Church, and in churches at every military base he was assigned across the United States. Grounded in his faith, he was known as a man of honesty and integrity both in his personal life and in his profession.
David had a profound appreciation for the simple joys of life. He found solace and beauty in the great outdoors, whether casting a line by the water’s edge or patiently waiting in the solitude of the woods. Beyond the fields and streams, David was a craftsman at heart. His interest in building and making was a testament to his creativity and dedication. Known as the man to call when things broke down, David served his community in whatever capacity was needed whether the customer could pay or not.
Proud patriarch of a loving family, David leaves behind a legacy of unity and strength. His commitment to his family was unwavering, and the bonds forged in love will endure beyond the sands of time. As we mourn the loss of David let us also celebrate a life well-lived—a life marked by service, faith, appreciation for nature, and the joy of creation. May his memory inspire us to carry forward the lessons he so generously shared and to live our lives with the same love and purpose that defined his existence.

David Earl Spears will be remembered by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Billie June Kirkland Spears, his daughters Ronda (Randy) Spears Register and Connie (Jerry) Spears Balkcom; son-in-law Manuel Lopez; grandchildren Shannon (Mike) Spears Tapia, David Brent Spears, Kelsey Spears, Diego Lopez, Ana Lopez, Michelle (Michael) Watson Baber, Cody (Steven) Register Tillery, David Benjamin (Brittany) Balkcom, Sarah (Chase) Balkcom Garris; great grandchildren Madison Tapia, David Baber, Dean Baber, Sarah Tillery, Andre Tillery, Colton Balkcom, Madelyn Balkcom, Finley Balkcom, Everett Garris, Laurel June Garris, Ivy Garris, Jett Garris; siblings Mary (Tom) Spears Wagner, Danny (Merlene) Spears, Martha (Don) Spears Cook, Donna (Charles) Phillips; sisters-in-law Carolyn Kirkland Spears, Edith Spears, and Nola Spears; and many dear cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He is proceeded in death by his parents Frank and Myrtle Spears; parents-in-law Bill and Christine Kirkland; daughter Andrea Lopez Spears; son David Glen Spears; siblings Ralph Spears, Travis Spears, and Rodger Spears.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024, from 5-7 PM at James & Lipford Funeral Home, Graceville, Florida. Funeral services will be held at Bethel Baptist Church, on Sunday, January 7, at 2 PM.
