Severe Weather Update From Jackson County, Florida Sheriff’s Office on January 9, 2024

In the wake of the recent severe weather event, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is providing the following updates:

There are no reported fatalities in Jackson County at this time. Seven people were transported with injuries, five with minor injuries and two with critical injuries.

This morning, there were approximately 2500 customers without power, that number is now down to about 1880. Crews will be working through the night to restore power to as many people as possible.

Law Enforcement will have extra patrol stationed throughout the county tonight.

A Verizon tower was lost in the area of Flynt Drive and Merritt’s Mill Road. A temporary tower is expected to arrive in the next 24 – 48 hours.

Highway 90 from Highway 71 South to Panhandle Road is still closed, and is expected to stay closed until Wednesday, January 10 (tomorrow). Many other roads have road blockages and downed power lines.

Please be aware of all first responders and linemen working through the night and drive with caution. If you come upon power lines, trees, or bodies of water while driving, do not continue. Turn around immediately and call the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office at (850) 482-9648 to report it.
