Peggy Jo Mercer Reeves, 85, of Cottondale, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on January 14, 2024, at Marianna Health and Rehab.
Peggy was born on September 24, 1938, in Midland City, AL to Joe Mercer and Mary Myrtle Middlebrooks Mercer. Peggy moved to northwest Florida at a young age where she graduated from Malone High School in 1956. She lived in Virginia for a 10 years before moving to Cottondale in 1969. She became a follower of Christ as a teenager and was member of the First Baptist Church of Cottondale for forty-five years. “Miss” Peggy served as the elementary Sunday School teacher and taught many, many children to sing the Books of the Bible. She was a member of the WMU where she was on several committees and also served as president. Peggy worked at Cottondale High School as a guidance aide and was a member of the Friendship Club of Cottondale. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Joe and Myrtle Mercer; daughter: Jo Lee Klump; brother: Morris Mercer; sisters: Jeanette Ferguson and Jeanelle Buntin.
She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years: Albert Doyle Reeves of Cottondale, FL; daughters: Cynthia Brunson (John) of Eufaula, AL, Terri Lowery (Tom) of Gainesville, FL, Karla Johnson (Louis) of Troy, AL; brother: Allen Mercer (Diana) of Sikeston, MO; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved her dearly.
Celebration of Life will be held 11 AM, Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Obert Funeral Home Chapel (731 Kirkland Road) in Chipley, Florida with Rev. Louis Johnson officiating. Obert Funeral Home of Chipley, Florida, directing.
The family will be receiving friends at The Reeves’ Home (3188 Main Street Cottondale, Florida) from 4- 6 PM Thursday, January 18, 2024.
