On 2/4/24 at approximately 12:40 AM, a HCSO deputy observed an older model Cadillac failing to make a complete stop at the intersection of Highway 2 and Highway 79.
The Deputy activated his emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle refused to stop, and a pursuit initiated which continued into Alabama, reaching speeds of up to 80 MPH, with the suspect failing to maintain a single lane.
With coordination from the Geneva County Sheriff’s Office and the Hartford Police Department, the pursuit eventually led to the deployment of spike strips at the intersection of Highway 167 and Highway 16.
The suspect vehicle hit the strips, slowing down and ultimately coming to a stop at the Inland gas station in Hartford, Alabama.
The driver, identified as Rodney Alter Russaw, cooperatively surrendered by throwing the vehicle keys out of the window and raising his hands.
Russaw was taken into custody and transported to the Geneva County Jail where he awaits extradition back to Holmes County.
