On Saturday, February 3, around 4 p.m., EMS responded to a report that someone was laying on the ground near Highway 71 in Marianna. While EMS was attempting to do an assessment, the person walked away and into a liquor store. When deputies arrived, they found the person, William Sellers, to be intoxicated, and took him back to his hotel room.
Around 4:45 p.m., deputies received reports that Sellers was causing a commotion and being rude to customers in a local business in the same area. Deputies detained Sellers and informed him that he would be taken to jail for protective custody due to his intoxicated state. Sellers then began resisting law enforcement without violence by pushing against them as they were trying to search his person.
Deputies took Sellers to Jackson Hospital to be medically cleared, and he became irate and combative. While deputies were attempting to calm Sellers down, he kicked one deputy in the groin, and one in the face.
When backup arrived on scene, Sellers was placed in leg shackles. While deputies were attempting to transport Sellers to a patrol vehicle, he threatened to harm a nurse and struck the nurse with his head.
Sellers is being charged with two counts of Battery Against a Law Enforcement Officer, Battery Against a Healthcare Professional, Resisting Arrest Without Violence, and Resisting Arrest With Violence.
