Washington County, Florida Emergency Management Advises of Traffic Concerns on Friday, February 16, 2024

Drivers will encounter traffic disruptions on the following state roads in Washington and Holmes counties as crews perform construction and maintenance activities.

Washington County:

  • State Road (S.R.) 79 Routine Bridge Maintenance over Open Creek – Drivers may encounter intermittent single-lane closures on S.R. 2, between Ten Mile Creek and the Jackson County line, Monday, Feb. 19 through Saturday, Feb. 24, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. In addition, lane closures will occur for bridge railing repairs at Little Creek Bridge. Directional signage and traffic flagmen will be used to safely direct drivers through these work zones.

Holmes County:

  • S.R. 2 Resurfacing from Choctawhatchee River Bridge to County Road 177 and from Ten Mile Creek to the Jackson County Line – Drivers may encounter intermittent single-lane closures from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19 through Saturday, Feb. 24 between Ten Mile Creek and the Jackson County line. Crews will be completing paving and drainage work. In addition, lane closures will occur for bridge railing repairs at the Little Creek Bridge. Directional signage and traffic flagmen will be used to safely direct drivers through these work zones.
  • Thomas Drive Bridge Replacement over Open Creek – Motorists may encounter intermittent lane closures Monday, Feb. 19 through Thursday, Feb. 22 for construction activities.
  • Interstate 10 (I-10) Routine Bridge Maintenance over S.R. 81 – Motorists may encounterroad intermittent lane closures south of U.S. 90 Monday, Feb. 19 from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. for routine bridge maintenance.
  • I-10 Routine Bridge Maintenance over S.R. 79 – Motorists may encounter intermittent lane closures east of U.S. 90 Thursday, Feb. 22 from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. for routine bridge maintenance.

All activities are weather dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to use caution, especially at night, when traveling through a work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
