Washington County, Florida Emergency Management Advises of Severe Weather on Friday & Saturday, March 8 & 9, 2024

The potential for strong to severe thunderstorms is increasing Friday night early into Saturday night. Damaging winds, a few tornadoes, and heavy rain with the potential of flooding will all be possible.

Friday Night thru Saturday Morning:

·  Slight Risk (level 2 of 5) for severe weather – SPC outlook valid starting 7AM ET/6AM CT Friday through 7AM ET/6AM CT Saturday

·  Slight Risk (level 2 of 4) of Excessive Rainfall – WPC outlook valid starting 7AM ET/6AM CT Friday through 7AM ET/6AM CT Saturday

    • The slight risk is confined roughly northwest of a Cuthbert GA to Elba AL line, with a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 4) to the southeast.

Late Saturday morning into early Saturday night

·  Slight Risk (level 2 of 5) for severe weather – SPC outlook valid starting 7AM ET/6AM CT  Saturday

·  Marginal Risk (level 1 of 4) of Excessive Rainfall – valid starting 7AM ET/6AM CT Saturday

Overview:

An area of low pressure will develop to our west and will slowly move east to northeast on Friday. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to move in Friday night and then continue into early Saturday night. Damaging wind gusts are the main threat with a few tornadoes also possible. Heavy rain is likely with amounts varying between 1 and 2 inches, but there is the possibility for these amounts to at least double if a boundary sets up in our area.
