On Wednesday, March 6th, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint that several people were attempting to open car doors on Club Drive. Deputies were dispatched to the scene and located a few individuals nearby. They took down the individuals’ names and released them, pending further investigation.
Later that morning, our office began receiving calls from victims on Club Drive stating their vehicles had been broken into and they were missing some items. The Criminal Investigations Division was notified and made contact with the individuals who were seen in the area the night before. One suspect, a juvenile, admitted to being one of the individuals attempting to open car doors the night before and identified the other three suspects.
When investigators searched the suspects’ residence, they located the stolen property.
Ronald Mays, Ashton Perez, and Josiah Hernandez were all arrested and charged with Burglary of a Conveyance and Petit Theft. During the commission of the crimes, the subjects were wearing masks, which enhances the Burglary to a Conveyance charge from a third-degree felony or a second-degree felony.
This incident is still under investigation and more charges are pending.
Recently, there have been many burglaries of this nature in Jackson County. Sheriff Edenfield encourages everyone to lock their vehicles and homes and do not leave valuables in plain sight.
