National Weather Service Advises of Extreme Weather Risk on March 15, 2024

By | March 15, 2024

Slight Risk (2 of 5) for severe thunderstorms is expected for this evening into the overnight hours.

Marginal Risk (1 of 5) extends for areas east of the Chattahoochee/Apalachicola river basins to the Valdosta/Tallahassee line.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch will be in effect through 7pm CDT for counties included in the Slight Risk.

Overview:

An ongoing MCS currently over Central Mississippi and Alabama will track south towards the Tri-State region later this evening.

Forecast soundings suggest that large hail and gusty winds will be the main concerns with these storms, but a brief tornado cannot be ruled out.

The storms will have the potential to remain strong to severe until they reach the GA/FL state line where the instability is weaker, and the storms should fizzle out along the stalled frontal boundary.
