A Slight Risk (2 of 5) for severe thunderstorms is expected for this evening into the overnight hours.
A Marginal Risk (1 of 5) extends for areas east of the Chattahoochee/Apalachicola river basins to the Valdosta/Tallahassee line.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch will be in effect through 7pm CDT for counties included in the Slight Risk.
Overview:
An ongoing MCS currently over Central Mississippi and Alabama will track south towards the Tri-State region later this evening.
Forecast soundings suggest that large hail and gusty winds will be the main concerns with these storms, but a brief tornado cannot be ruled out.
The storms will have the potential to remain strong to severe until they reach the GA/FL state line where the instability is weaker, and the storms should fizzle out along the stalled frontal boundary.
