Cy Cope Chance, 63 of Chipley, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on March 26, 2024, at Piedmont Healthcare in Columbus, GA surrounded by his loving family.
Cy was born on February 14, 1961 in Chipley, Florida to Roy and Mary Joan (Prescott) Chance. A lifelong resident of the Florida Panhandle, he was a member of First Baptist Church in Chipley, Florida. Cy graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Science, and was the Director of Ag Land and Resource Management for the College of Agriculture. His love for all things agriculture extended beyond his job; as he loved working on his family farm, tending the garden and maintaining a healthy herd of cattle and other livestock. Cy was a mainstay at the local livestock auctions and was a supporter of both the FFA and 4H. He was an avid sports fan and was very active in the community, coaching many youth baseball teams. Cy was a fabulous cook and had a passion for good food. He will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Roy and Mary Joan Chance.
He is survived by his wife: Tara Chance of Midland, Georgia; two sons: Cullen Chance of Aurora, Colorado, Colby Chance of Chipley, Florida; daughter: Jillian Chance of Dothan, Alabama; brother: Arnie Chance and wife Jean of Warsaw, Indiana; step sons: Eathan Barfield and wife Jaiyana of Phenix City, Alabama, Rhett Barfield of Midland, Georgia, Noah Barfield and wife Ansley of Columbus, Georgia; five grandchildren: Savannah, Ezra, Addilyn, Maverick, and Maezie.
Funeral services will be held 11AM Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at First Baptist Church in Chipley, Florida with Rev. Mike Orr officiating. Interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. Obert Funeral Home of Chipley, Florida directing.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 10-11AM Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at First Baptist Church in Chipley, Florida.
