Lola Fay Sallas, age 82, of Bonifay, Florida passed away April 11, 2024, at her home.
She was born May 13, 1941, in Bonifay to the late Alvin Brett and Lila Hinson Brett. In addition to her parents, Fay was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Donald ‘Don’ Jackson Sallas and three sisters, Wynell Whitehead, Yvonne Evans, and Ann Lipford.
As a bookkeeper at Howell Chevrolet, Fay displayed precision and diligence in her work, earning the respect of colleagues and customers alike. Beyond her professional endeavors, Fay’s greatest joy came from caring for her husband and nurturing her boys with boundless love and endless patience.
An avid reader and talented writer, Fay found inspiration in the pages of books. Her passion for literature was matched only by her skillful hands in sewing and quilting, creating timeless pieces that will be treasured for generations to come.
In addition to her creative pursuits, Fay dedicated her time and energy to serving her community at the Holmes County Fair and her faith.
For many years, she taught Sunday School and served as church secretary at First Freewill Baptist Church, where her kindness and wisdom touched the lives of all who knew her. Later, she joined First Baptist Church Bonifay, where she continued to worship and serve the Lord.
Fay Sallas will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her boundless compassion, and her unwavering faith. She leaves behind a legacy of love and service that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Ms. Sallas, beloved wife, devoted mother, and cherished member of the community, is survived by her three sons, Frank Sallas and fiancée, Jennifer, James ‘Jim’ Sallas and wife, Brenda, and Greg Sallas and wife, Beverly; eight grandchildren, Alex Sallas, Breanna Booker and husband Bradly, Eli Sallas, Tyler Sallas, Ian Sallas and wife Kylie, Kylee Meachem, Anna Meachem, and Jylian Sallas; two great-grandchildren, Kai and Huxley; one sister, Mary Brett; several nieces and nephews; a special caregiver, Courtney Wynn.
Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, April 14, 2024, at First Baptist Bonifay with Dr. Shelly Chandler officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John Cemetery with Peel Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 3 to 4 PM at First Baptist Bonifay.
