William Jed Braxton of Bonifay, Florida passed from this life to his Heavenly Home on April 20, 2024, at the age of 70.
He was born and raised in Port St. Joe, Florida and loved Gulf County with its lakes and coastal waters. He was a 1972 graduate of Port St. Joe High School, 1975 graduate of Gulf Coast Community College with an associate degree. He also had State of Florida EMT and Corrections certificates.
Jed worked as a radio station broadcaster at WJOE Radio in Port St. Joe for 1970-1975. He later worked as Gospel Musci Director at WBGC Radio Station in Chipley, Florida for 9 years.
He served Holmes County as an Emergency Medical Technician in the 80s. His final career was with the Florida Department of Corrections where he spent 26 years and retired as a Correctional Officer Sargent. He was one of the original Holmes CI employees hired in August of 1987.
Jed enjoyed his family, Southern Gospel concerts, his poodles, and church activities. He loved Jesus Christ and had a heart for various Christian ministries that he supported. He attended Calvary Baptist Church and West Bonifay Baptist Church in Bonifay, Florida.
Jed was preceded in death by his parents, Tommy and Ruth Braxton; one brother, Attorney Wayne G. Braxton; uncle and aunt, Joe and Hazel Ferrell; father-in-law and mother-in-law, W.J. and Etta Bradley.
Jed is survived by his wife and best friend of 46 years, Kathy Braxton of Bonifay; daughter, Bethany Riley (Shawn) of Slocomb, AL; grandsons, Luke and Josh Riely of Slocomb, AL; sister, Jennifer Braxton of Chipley, FL; sister-in-law, Lota Kay Braxton of Chipley, FL; nephews, Jamison Cullifer and David Bryant (Lea); nieces, Ashleigh Taylor (Dave), Terri Lee (Bryan), and Tanya Champion (Jason). Also surviving are brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Terry and Janice Richards of Bonifay.
Funeral services will be held at Calvary Baptist Church on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at 11:00 AM. The visitation will begin at 10:00 AM.
Burial will be at Carmel Assembly of God Church Cemetery with Peel Funeral Home directing.
