On Sunday, April 21, 2024, around 10:15 p.m., deputies were patrolling near the intersection of Magnolia Road and Iron Bridge Road and conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with no tag displayed.
When deputies made contact with the driver, Roy Lee Collins, they noticed Collins was slurring his words and providing a delayed response to questions.
They also noticed the odor of alcohol emanating from his person. Throughout the course of the stop, Collins became argumentative and angry, exhibiting frequent mood swings.
Deputies asked Collins if he would perform a series of field sobriety exercises and he agreed. Collins was unable to successfully complete any of the exercises.
He was then transported to the Marianna Police Department to provide a breath alcohol sample, but he refused.
During the stop, deputies learned that Collins has six previous Driving While License Suspended convictions, five of which resulted from Driving Under the Influence.
Collins is being charged with Driving While License Suspended, Revoked, Canceled, or Disqualified Third or Subsequence Offense and Driving Under the Influence.
