Florida Highway Patrol Report Fatal Accident on Highway 71 in Jackson County, Involving Motorcycle, Deer and SUV on April 27, 2024

The Florida Highway Patrol have reported a fatal accident on Highway 71 at Jasmine Drive on Saturday evening, April 27, 2024, at approximately 9:33 p.m.
 
The Florida Highway Patrol was notified of a two- vehicle accident, involving a motorcycle (black Suzuki) driven by a 40-year old male from Malone, FL traveling south on State Road 71 just south of Jasmine Drive.
 
Driver one collided with a deer in the roadway and the collision caused the motorcycle and driver, and the deer to enter into the northbound lane of State Road 71 just as Vehicle two (Gray Ford SUV) was traveling north.
 
The SUV was unable to avoid impact and collided with the motorcycle, rider and deer, with pieces of the motorcycle catching fire.
 
The SUV traveled north of the area of the collision and came to a controlled stop in the roadway.
 
Two passengers from that vehicle were transported to Jackson ER with minor injuries.
 
Driver of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased at the scene.
 
The driver of vehicle two was a 23 year-old male from Gordon, AL with passengers: 22-year-old female from Gordon, AL, an 18-year-old male from Gordon, a 40-year-old male from Gordon, and one-year-old female from Gordon.
