Washington County, Florida School District Recognizes Achievements at May Board Meeting

The Washington County, Florida School Board recognized the following outstanding achievements on May 13, 2024.
 
Chipley High School Girls Softball Team Academic Award

The Chipley High School Softball team has shown that they are true student-athletes! With a combined GPA of 3.693, they have been named the FHSAA Class 1A Academic Team Champions. The team’s commitment to their education is impressive, with nine out of ten players achieving a GPA of 3.6 or higher and multiple members boasting weighted GPAs above 4.0. Their academic achievements are a testament to their hard work and dedication. (Team was unable to attend due to schedule conflict)

Coach Rudd to recognize CHS student Jaci Renfro, Girls Weightlifting Champion.

Jaci Renfro competed in the FWF State Championship on Saturday, May 4th. The FWF State Championship is a state-level weightlifting competition for USA Olympic Weightlifting. While at the meet, Jaci won the state championship for 59 kg 16-17-year-old females. She had a total of 145 kg. Jaci and Coach Rudd will travel to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on June 17-18 for the USA Olympic Weightlifting National Championship. Jaci will compete for the National Championship in the 59 kg Junior women’s division.

 Transportation Specialist Dawn Spooner and KMS Principal Chris Tyre Safety Awards Presentation

Ms. Spooner recognized transportation employee Dakota Tindell for his dedication to student safety, and Mr. Tyre recognized Makayda Roulhac as a champion of safety. Catena

 Recognition of CTE Program Completers

Starting this year, based on students who have completed three courses in a single culinary, ag, or any CTE program, the district will be funded an extra .3 FTE. Students from Culinary Arts recognized are: Laurie Simmons, Tearin Cropper, Hanna Rester, Traci Stevens

Chipley High School Student Sydney Black is the winner of this Florida Prepaid 2-Year Florida College Plan for our district.

Recognition of Eva Gibson – VES Accelerated Reader Record, VES Librarian Ms. Gail Seaboch

Eva broke the Accelerated Reading point record at Vernon Elementary School this past week. The record was 753.3 points. She currently has 761.4 points- has read 225 books-passed 225 reading quizzes in her 5th grade year. This equates to over 5 million words read. This reading helped her achieve a Level 5 on her FAST ELA test.

Student Group Recognition – Ms. Deborah Brown

Ms. Deborah Brown introduced Yes Lord Deliverance Youth Group Ministry students (12-17 year-olds) who came to observe the school board meeting to see how board members handle the business of the school. May is their Political & Community Awareness Month, and they will be visiting the capitol, the city, and other public meetings.  The objective is for them to learn how to communicate publicly and effectively and develop leadership skills and career opportunities.
