Florida Man Shoots Himself Dead After Brief Standoff with Deputies During Service of Warrant in DeFuniak Springs, Florida

Tuesday afternoon, deputies attempted to make contact with Jerry L. Hollingsworth, 44, at his home on Coy Burgess Loop to serve a warrant out of Okaloosa County.
 
The warrant was for failure to appear for sentencing on an original charge of using a computer to solicit a child. Hollingsworth was out on bond and failed to appear in court Tuesday morning.
 
When deputies went to his house, they made contact with Hollingsworth’s husband who confirmed he was home.
 
Hollingsworth was located in the backyard hiding behind a chicken coop.
 
Deputies quickly noticed Hollingsworth had a gun as he held it to his head.
 
Deputies tried to deescalate the situation, but Hollingsworth fired one round into his head.
 
First aid was attempted and Hollingsworth was was transported, but he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
