A Vernon resident is behind bars in Hillsborough County on several felony charges following reports of a stolen vehicle.
On June 7th, Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to an address on State Rd. 79 in reference to a possible stolen vehicle. The owner stated the Ford Explorer was outside the residence when he went to bed, but when he awoke the vehicle was missing.
WCSO Investigators were contacted and within 7 hours the vehicle was recovered at an address in Hillsborough County. The neighbor, 34-year-old Michael Todd Allen, a person of interest, was contacted and admitted to the owner he knew where the vehicle was.
Further investigation revealed Allen to be in possession of the vehicle at a Hillsborough County address. The vehicle was located in an alleyway where HC deputies attempted contact. Allen fled to a nearby Publix parking lot where he exited the vehicle and continued on foot. Allen was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit.
Allen was arrested and transported to the Hillsborough County Jail on charges of resisting an officer without violence, felony fleeing to elude, and driving while license suspended or revoked.
Allen also had an outstanding warrant for DWLSR out of Pasco County and will be extradited back to Washington County to face charges of grand theft of a motor vehicle.
