A Vernon man is in custody after deputies locate a stolen firearm.

On July 15th, WCSO was contacted by a resident of Washington County who also owns a residence in Bay County. The homeowner was having some repairs done to the Bay County home and realized a firearm was missing from the residence.

Subsequently, the owner of a local contracting company was notified that one of his employees was possibly responsible for stealing the firearm. The owner of the company stated the employee was traveling in a company vehicle to a location in Washington County and gave WCSO authorities permission to search the vehicle for the firearm.

WCSO deputies arrive on scene and make contact with 24-year-old, Tyler Thomas Roberts, who was informed of the search. The firearm was located under the driver’s seat of the company vehicle assigned to Roberts. Roberts admitted to stealing the firearm with the intent to sell it.

Roberts was arrested and transported to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office on the charges of dealing in stolen property and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
