A Geneva, AL resident was arrested last night on grand theft charges.
On July 7, 2024, Washington County, Florida Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a residence on Cook’s Mill Rd. that was under construction in reference to a grand theft. Surveillance photos show an older model Toyota Tundra pull into the construction site, hook up to a 6 x 14 utility trailer, and leave the area.
WCSO investigators obtained information on the Toyota Tundra that came back to a deceased individual out of Ozark, AL. It was determined in the early stages of the investigation that a family member and her significant other who were living in the Geneva area were in possession of the vehicle. Several attempts to make contact with the family member were unsuccessful.
In an attempt to locate the vehicle and individuals, both the Dale County and Geneva County Sheriff’s Offices were contacted to assist.
Further investigation revealed, 43-year-old Jeramie Lee Burleson, had used the Toyota Tundra to go to the construction site, steal the trailer, then return back to AL where he later traded the Tundra and sold the trailer. But with suspicions by the new owner that the trailer was “hot,” it was returned to Burleson who returned it to the Cook’s Mill Rd. address with a different vehicle. A warrant was issued for Burleson’s arrest.
Last night, Burleson was arrested in Geneva County and charged with grand theft. He is currently awaiting extradition back to Washington County.
