On Wednesday, July 31, around 3 p.m., Jackson County, Florida Sheriff’s Office deputies were patrolling the area of U.S. Highway 231 in Alford and attempted a traffic stop on a green Ford Focus due to being unable to read the license plate. When deputies initiated their emergency lights, the vehicle sped up.
While deputies were attempting to stop the vehicle, the driver threw something out of the window onto the road. The vehicle came to a stop on Cemetery Road and the driver, Kenneth Lee McRoy, fled into the woods on foot.
The K9 Tracking Unit was called to the scene, established a track, and located McRoy a short time later.
Deputies located a glass smoking pipe with methamphetamine residue on the side of the road where McRoy threw it out the window. Deputies located an additional glass smoking pipe inside the glove box of the vehicle.
After further investigation, it was discovered that McRoy’s driver’s license was cancelled indefinitely in November of 2021. McRoy has seven prior Driving While License Suspended or Revoked Convictions.
McRoy was arrested and is being charged with Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Tampering with Evidence, Driving While License Suspended or Revoked Knowingly, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
