On this day in 2021, the Rolling Stones confirmed Charlie Watts’ passing, saying he passed away surrounded by family at a London hospital.
He had pulled out of the band’s upcoming U.S. tour earlier this month to recover from a recent heart operation.
“Charlie was a cherished husband, father and grandfather and also as a member of The Rolling Stones one of the greatest drummers of his generation,” the band said in a statement.
