Construction crews are working to widen a 3.5 mile segment of S.R. 77 through the town of Wausau. The four-lane alignment will follow the same path as the current roadway through the “main street” portion of the town. No detours, bypasses, or other deviations from the current alignment will be constructed.
Completion of the $56 million effort is estimated for mid-2027, at which time S.R. 77 will feature four continuous travel lanes from the U.S. “Business Highway” 98 intersection in Panama City to north of I-10 in Chipley.
The accompanying graphic is a conceptualization of the S.R. 77 improvements at the County Road 279 (Pioneer Road) intersection that will be reconstructed to improve traffic flow. Shown are new sidewalks and bicycle lanes. Additional work will include storm water enhancements for better drainage and traffic signal upgrades.
A reminder that the speed limit on S.R. 77 is reduced to 45 mph to accommodate construction activities. Please be alert for construction workers, vehicles, and equipment.
