On August 28, 2024, the Chipley Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic infraction near the intersection of Church Avenue and 2nd Street. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers detected the strong odor of marijuana. The driver did not possess a valid medical marijuana card and admitted to recently smoking marijuana.
Based on this information, a probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted. During the search, officers discovered Hydrocodone pills in a tied baggie, which were not prescribed to the driver. The driver, identified as Eric Lamar Hooks, was subsequently arrested for possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and tampering with evidence due to his attempt at destroying a narcotic during the traffic stop.
Eric Lamar Hooks was transported to the Washington County Jail without incident.
