On Tuesday, Sept. 17, around 1 a.m., Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Deputies saw a vehicle swerving across the road and nearly hitting a curb on Lafayette Street.
Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the driver, Johnathan Lee Hayes.
Deputies smelled alcohol emanating from the vehicle, and noticed Hayes’ eyes were glassy and his speech was slurred. Deputies also saw an open bottle of alcohol in the drink holder.
Hayes was asked to perform field sobriety exercises, which he consented to do.
However, he was unable to successfully complete them. Hayes was transported to Jackson County Correctional Facility to give a breath sample, but he refused.
Hayes was arrested and is being charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol.
