Tropical Storm Helene Update
After a meeting with the Florida Department of Emergency Management at 10:15 a.m., updates are as follows:
A definite track for Tropical Storm Helene cannot yet be determined. However, based on this morning’s meeting, it appears we could start getting Tropical Storm force winds Thursday morning and into Thursday evening, with the brunt of the weather coming Thursday evening.
We are expected to get 5 – 7 inches of rainfall.
Jackson County schools will be closed Thursday and Friday, and there will be no extracurricular activities Thursday evening. Friday afternoon extracurricular activities are still on.
At this time, Emergency Management has made the decision not to have shelters in place in Jackson County. This could change if the track of the storm changes.
Citizens can bring their own sandbags and shovels to the open lot across from Emergency Management at 2819 Panhandle Road to get sand.
