Washington County Sheriff’s Office Investigators have identified two juveniles in connection with a rash of thefts in the Old Bonifay Road area.

On September 10th, Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to Old Bonifay Road in reference to a theft that had occurred.  The complainant stated she received a notification earlier that day that a package was delivered to her mailbox. Once arriving home that afternoon the package was no longer there.  The complaint stated she, and her husband began walking down the road in an attempt to locate the items and discovered several empty shipping containers concealed in a drain culvert. Deputies collected the evidence and made contact with another individual whose name was located on the other shipping containers. He was also experiencing theft and had reported it to the postal service.

A couple juvenile suspects were quickly identified. Investigators made contact with the juveniles and their parents, who admitted to the thefts. Several of the stolen items were recovered.

Also reported on September 25th, a burglary occurred in the same area. One of the victims’ relatives was watching over a house and noticed a broken window and the door standing open. He immediately called the Sheriff’s office and waited on deputies to arrive before entering the residence. Once inside it appeared someone had gone through all the cabinets in the house. Bricks were also located that were used to gain entry into the residence.  A witness confirmed he saw the two juveniles in the yard of the resident and confronted them. When asked what they were doing they stated, “visiting a friend.” That information was false, and the juveniles were asked to leave the residence. Further investigation resulted in the juveniles admitting to the burglary and theft of items located in the home as well.

All items related to the home burglary have been recovered. The juveniles arrested in these cases were ages 14 and 11.
