Geraldine Coats Lindsey, 92, of Chipley, Florida passed away on October 3, 2024. She was surrounded by her family.
Geraldine was known by many names. Geraldine, Dean, Sister, Mama, Granny, Grandma, Aunt Geraldine, Mama Lindsey just to name a few. If you knew her, you loved her. If she knew you, she loved you.
Our mama was the greatest example of what a mother should be. She is an example of the virtuous woman we read about in Proverbs 31:10-31. She loved her family more than she loved herself and was always sacrificing to make sure we had what we needed. I remember a time when I finally realized how much she loved us. With 8 people to feed on a very limited income, she managed to make sure we had food. She would cut that chicken up. One day I noticed that she always took the neck and back. I asked her. She said, “O I love those pieces. They have the most flavor.” When in actuality, she took what was left so that her family was full.
Geraldine loved the Lord with all of her heart and served Him wherever He planted her. In the late 1980’s, she gave her heart to the Lord at Hickory Hill Baptist Church in Westville, Florida. After some time, she began serving the Lord at Gully Springs Baptist Church with her daughter. From late 2007 to her passing, Geraldine was a member of Ebro Baptist Church in Ebro, Florida.
Geraldine is survived by her Brother, William B (Colleen) Coats of Clermont Springs, Florida, her Children, Katherine (Tony) Jernigan of Columbia, Alabama, Paul (Mary) Lindsey of Enfield, Connecticut, Christine (Rick) Sugars of Chipley, Florida, Angela (Mike) Pippin of Bonifay, Florida. Her Son In Love, Henry Hernandez of Dothan, Alabama. Her Grandchildren Joanna Hernandez, Jesse (Cassey) Rhodes, Lindsey Wilson, Benjamin (Megan) Jernigan, Jennifer (Kyle) McCurry, Rachel Lindsey, Ashley (Chase) Tryon, Kara Sugars, Michael Skyler Pippin, Brittany Pippin, Corey Pippin, Hunter Pippin, Makayla Lindsey. Her Great Grandchildren Katie Rhodes, Brycen (Alisha) Rhodes, Brayden Rhodes, Payton Wilson, Brooklynn Wilson, Abigail Jernigan, Lilly Jernigan, Brenden McCurry, Colin McCurry, Mason Menard, Gracie Menard, Austin Tryon. Her Great Great Grandchild Emaree Rhodes. Many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Billie Paul Lindsey, 2 children Jackie Hernandez and Jimmy Ray Lindsey, 2 grandchildren David Lindsey and Paul Lindsey, Her parents Thomas Allen Coats and Minnie Mozelle Stewart, 2 sisters Nearlene Barnes and Earlene Cavender, 1 brother Junior Stewart.
A Celebration of a Life well lived will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at Sims Funeral Home in Bonifay, Florida. Geraldine will be laid to rest at the Westville Cemetery.
