Born on July 31, 1966, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, Rey spent his early years in Columbus, Georgia, before moving to Dothan, Alabama, as a high school senior, where he graduated from Northview High School. After high school, he proudly served in the United States Army, which allowed him to travel and experience the world. Following his service, Rey returned home, earning his degree in Accounting from Troy University while serving in the National Guard. He balanced his education with work and his unwavering commitment to family and community.
In 1992, Rey married the love of his life, Stephanie Gustason, and together they raised two children, Somer and Noah. Rey’s charismatic personality and sense of humor left a mark on everyone he met. He had a way of keeping people laughing, and while he wasn’t always appropriate, his honesty and humor were what made him one of a kind. People were naturally drawn to his fun-loving spirit and the endless tales he shared.
Rey was part owner of Gustason & Davis Financial Services in Chipley, Fl, and was highly dedicated to his career as a financial advisor, where he helped countless clients plan for their futures.
An avid supporter of youth sports, Rey spent countless hours coaching recreation and travel baseball teams. He was dedicated to encouraging young athletes, and his love for the game resonated with the community. He supported several local school teams and dreamed of one day coaching his grandsons. Rey also owned Next Generation Sports, a gym and training facility for youth sports. His love for sports and mentoring young athletes found a home in this business, where he inspired and encouraged the next generation both on and off the field.
Rey’s love for the University of Georgia Bulldogs was legendary. A passionate fan, he could often be heard cheering on his team, sharing his enthusiasm (or frustration) with friends and family.
Rey was a devoted husband to Stephanie, a proud father to Somer (Chad) Davis and Noah (Skyler) Gustason, and a doting grandfather to Cooper and Barrett, who brought immense joy to his life. He leaves behind a large circle of friends who will forever cherish his larger-than-life personality and the laughter he brought into their lives.
Rey’s legacy of love, laughter, and friendship will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Vitas Healthcare for the compassionate hospice care they provided to Rey in his final days. They are also deeply grateful to the many friends who visited and offered their love and support. Their kindness brought comfort and peace to him and the entire family during a difficult time.
A Celebration of Life will be held 4 PM Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at Obert Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Vince Spencer officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation following the service until 5:30 PM. Obert Funeral Home of Chipley, Florida in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a local youth sports team, honoring Rey’s lifelong commitment to youth and the sports he loved.
