Low humidity and strong winds behind a cold front this morning will result in elevated to critical fire weather conditions across the area, particularly in the Florida Panhandle and western Big Bend.
Overview:
A strong cold front moved through the forecast area overnight and winds have become northerly.
Wind gusts around 10 to 15 mph this morning will increase into the early afternoon while dry air continues to move in from the north.
Winds will be around 15 to 20 mph at their peak this afternoon with gusts of 25 to 30 mph possible.
Relative humidity will fall to around 25 to 30% in the afternoon. The highest chance of these conditions occurring is in the Florida Panhandle and western Big Bend where a Fire Weather Watch has now been upgraded into a Red Flag Warning this morning.
In these types of weather patterns, new fires could start easier and may spread rapidly.
Fire safety precautions should be exercised to prevent new fires and any outdoor burning is strongly discouraged.
