Ross Clark Circle in Dothan, Alabama Scheduled for Major Traffic Pattern Change on October 20, 2024

By | October 21, 2024

Beginning Sunday evening, October 20, 2024, ALDOT’s contractor will implement a new traffic pattern for the area under construction between US-231/Montgomery Highway and Choctaw Street.

Drivers should look for the following changes when traveling through this area:

Two new traffic signals will be operational on the south side of the project near Meadowbrook Drive.

Two new frontage roads on either side of Ross Clark Circle will be open to two-way traffic.

Southbound Frontage Road is outside of Ross Clark Circle and used to access Northside Mall, Home Depot, LongHorn and Cracker Barrel. Southbound Frontage Road can be accessed from both northbound and southbound directions on Ross Clark Circle.

Northbound Frontage Road is inside Ross Clark Circle and used to access Sam’s Club, McDonald’s, Chick-fil-a and Shops on the Circle (Old Navy, TJ Maxx). Northbound Frontage Road can only be accessed from the northbound direction at this time.

Existing traffic signals at Sam’s Club and McDonalds will no longer be in operation.

A temporary signal will be in operation on Northbound Frontage Road near McDonalds to allow traffic to merge onto northbound Ross Clark Circle.

Southbound traffic on Ross Clark Circle will be able to merge right onto Southbound Frontage Road.

Limitations with new traffic pattern:

All median crossings from Choctaw Street to Montgomery Highway will be permanently closed.

Drivers traveling south on Ross Clark Circle will not be able to access Northbound Frontage Road at this time. Continue through the project and use the traffic signal at Choctaw Street to make a U-Turn to head north and merge onto Northbound Frontage Road. Signal timing will favor this movement to help facilitate heavy traffic.

Drivers traveling north on Southbound Frontage Road will not be able to access northbound Ross Clark Circle. Head south on Southbound Frontage Road onto Ross Clark Circle and make a U-turn at Choctaw Street. Alternatively, Meadowbrook Drive will connect to Southbound Frontage Road and can be used to access Westgate Parkway via Whatley Drive.

Truck/Delivery Concerns:

Local deliveries to businesses along Northbound Frontage Road that usually travel southbound on Ross Clark Circle will have to use the traffic signal at Choctaw Street to U-Turn and head north to access the Northbound Frontage Road. This may be an uncomfortable movement for larger trucks.

To provide an alternate route for local truck deliveries, Westgate Parkway will be open to truck traffic from US-231 to Choctaw Street. Similarly, Choctaw Street will be open to truck traffic making local deliveries to businesses along Northbound Frontage Road.
