Madine Suggs Owen, age 99, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 17, 2024 at Northwest Florida Community Hospital in Chipley, FL.
Madine was born October 16, 1925 in Cottondale, FL to Hughes and Eva Holley. She was a dedicated daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. She spent a portion of her life as a homemaker, and later worked for the Washington County School System for 18 years before she retired.
She was respectfully regarded as the matriarch of her family who maintained strong family values. Madine undoubtedly could be described as a remarkable independent woman with a heart of gold who consistently showed courage and strength, acted with integrity and honesty, displayed a strong work ethic and was resourceful and resilient.
Madine loved her church, God and her neighbors. She was a dedicated member of Oakie Ridge Baptist Church in Chipley, FL. Aside from spending time with her family and friends, she enjoyed gardening, mowing her yards and property, cooking, spending time outdoors fishing, reading, going to church and Sunday school and gospel music.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband G. C. Suggs, second husband Carl Owen, seven siblings, son-in-law Gil Lowe and daughter-in-law Myra Pettis Suggs.
She is survived by her daughter Barbara Suggs Lowe of Marianna, FL and son Mike Suggs of Chipley, FL; grandsons, Bryan (Emily) Lowe of Dothan, AL, Russell Lowe of Tallahassee, FL, Jason (Farrah) Suggs of Chipley, FL and Joey (Briana) Suggs of Chipley, FL; great grandchildren Wyatt Lowe, Aaron Lowe, Audrey Lowe, Blaine Suggs, Jaycee Suggs, Addyson Suggs, Hadley Suggs, and Zoey Suggs; and numerous other family members and loved ones.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. CST, Thursday, November 21, 2024 at Oakie Ridge Baptist Church located at 2971 Gilbert Mill Road, Chipley, FL 32428. The family will receive friends and family for visitation at 10 a.m. CST in the church prior to the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Oakie Ridge Baptist Church in Madine’s memory.
