Santa Rosa County Democratic Party Calls on Matt Gaetz and Rick Scott to Resign

The Santa Rosa County Democratic Party is calling on Rep. Matt Gaetz and Sen. Rick Scott to resign immediately.

The Santa Rosa County Democratic Party released a statement on Sunday, saying:

Given their seditious votes that falsely left the impression the Biden/Harris victory could be decertified by Congress, and given that their pre-vote rhetoric may have dangerously escalated the potential for violence at the January 6 rally in Washington DC, the Santa Rosa County Democratic Party calls on Rep. Matt Gaetz and Sen. Rick Scott to resign immediately. They are beyond being embarrassments to our district and to Florida.

Sen. Scott was one of seven senators to vote against President-elect Joe Biden’s win in Pennsylvania following the attack on Wednesday at the US Capitol. The vote backs President Donald Trump’s baseless claims of voter fraud.

Rep. Gaetz also continued to support Trump’s claims of voter fraud. He spoke on the House floor late Wednesday night, defending President Trump and suggesting that Antifa is partly responsible for the attack.

In its statement Sunday, the Santa Rosa County Democratic Party added:

Furthermore, we call on all local Republicans who are as horrified as we are with the actions of their political party this week to join us in this condemnation and to leave the Republican Party in protest.

Sen. Rick Scott’s office responded with the following statement:

The Democrats are getting carried away with their hate. This is all theater. It’s time to prepare for President-elect Biden to take office in 9 days, take the crazy rhetoric down on both sides and move our nation forward.
