Sidney Earl Batchelor, age 78, of Slocomb, Alabama passed away December 19, 2023, at Bonifay Nursing and Rehab Center in Bonifay, Florida.
 
He was born September 5, 1945, in Hartford, Alabama to the late Samuel Kendrick Batchelor and Etta Mae Huggins Batchelor.
 
In addition to his parents, Mr. Batchelor was preceded in death by his wife, Katie Batchelor and six siblings, Samuel Carlton Batchelor, Carey Batchelor, Robbie Watson, Maxine Sasser, Gwen Sizemore, and Dorothy Tutor.
 
A devoted military veteran and law enforcement professional. Born in Hartford and raised in Geneva County, He was one of ten siblings, leaving behind a legacy of family bonds. His distinguished career in the Army as military police showcased his commitment to service and duty.
 
After his military service, Sidney continued his dedication to the community through the Houston County Sheriff’s Department, where he served with honor, extending his impact to surrounding counties. A man of strength and resilience, Sidney was known for his unwavering commitment to upholding the principles of justice.
 
Beyond his professional life, Sidney lived by the river, his love for fishing echoing the tranquility he sought in nature. In quieter moments, he enjoyed staying informed through his avid viewership of Fox News and indulging in the timeless charm of old western shows.
 
Sidney Earl Batchelor will be remembered not only for his exemplary service but also for the warmth he brought to those around him. We honor the life of a dedicated soldier, law enforcement officer, and beloved family member.
 
Mr. Batchelor is survived by six children, Lori Batchelor of Dothan, AL, Kendrick Batchelor and Tammy of Dothan, AL, Amanda Lewis and Devin of Slocomb, AL, Mark Thompson of Ashford, AL, Hannah Cook of Headland, AL, and Bobbie Jo Sanders of Slocomb, AL; three siblings, Charles Batchelor, Keener Batchelor, and Katrine ‘Kay’ Batchelor Humphries; 17 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
 
Memorialization will be by cremation with Peel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
