School districts in Florida have been anxiously awaiting the informational baseline school and
district grade results, as new state testing began last school year.
State testing consists of the new FAST (Florida Assessment for Student Thinking), B.E.S.T. (Benchmarks for Excellence in Student Thinking), EOC (End of Course), and Statewide Science exams.
School districts are graded on the following tested areas: English Language Arts (grades 3-10), Math (grades 3-8), Science (grades 5 & 8), and specific EOC exams in Biology, Algebra 1, Geometry, Civics, and
US History. In addition to testing, middle school’s grade calculation includes an acceleration
score and high schools have components for both acceleration and graduation rate.
Washington County School District maintains a district grade of B, earning 62 percent of total
points possible, which continues trending upward since the drop in 2021 to 53.
Each graded school in the district increased in percentage of total possible points except one, which
decreased by only one point.
As we enter the second semester of this school year, our schools’ leadership and teachers are diligently working with students to teach new standards while providing academic interventions where needed.
Washington County School District is especially proud to rank third in the state in the College
and Career acceleration component with 77 points earned.
Students from the prior year graduation cohort who earned a passing score on an AP, IB or AICE exam, earned a C or better in an approved dual enrollment course, earned an approved CAPE industry certification, completed 300 or more clock hours through career dual enrollment courses from an approved program, or scored a 65 or higher on the ASVAB while earning two complete credits in JROTC
courses are counted in this component.
Superintendent of Schools Joe Taylor, states, “Ensuring our students enter the world beyond high school with the skills and tools to begin college or have a successful career experience is especially important to us. We celebrate many of our students and instructors that prepare students for the CAPE industry certification exams and dual enrollment completion for their achievement.”
