On Wednesday, April 10, 2024, around 10:30 p.m., Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies received information on the location of Charles Leon Carter, who had several felony warrants out of Jackson County. Several deputies arrived at the location in Compass Lake and saw Carter in a truck behind the residence. When Carter saw deputies, he immediately fled, hitting a marked patrol unit in the process.

Carter fled from deputies for a short distance, but lost control of the vehicle and struck a barbed wire fence. Carter then exited the vehicle and fled. The K-9 Tracking Unit and Drone Unit were called to the scene to assist, and Carter was located within 30 minutes of putting dogs on the ground.

Throughout the course of the investigation, it was determined that Carter’s driver’s license has been suspended since September 2023. Deputies also located methamphetamine inside a glass bottle and plastic baggie in the vehicle Carter was driving.

In addition to his active felony warrants, Carter was arrested and is being charged with Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding Law Enforcement, two counts of Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Driving While License Suspended or Revoked, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
