Part 1- A Photographic Retrospective of the 2014 Condemnation, Demolition and Reconstruction of the Washington County, Florida Courthouse

By | April 13, 2024

In February 2014, The Goulding Agency in Chipley, Florida was contracted by Florida’s 14th Judicial Circuit Court to document the questionable health conditions in the old Washington County, Florida Courthouse.

Multiple health-threatening conditions were subsequently found, including various molds, lead paints, water intrusion and decay, and unsafe air quality, and, following investigation, the building was condemned.

The Goulding Agency subsequently produced a multi-media collateral package, inclusive of photo, video, interviews and aerial images, which was presented to the Florida Supreme Court and eventually encouraged that Court to fund a new courthouse building.

The Washington County Board of Commissioners then contracted with The Goulding Agency to document the demolition of the Courthouse and Jail buildings, along with the construction of the new, Florida State-funded Courthouse structure.

The progress of that project will be documented  in the next few installments of this publication, starting with these images showing the stature and beauty of the original building in Downtown Chipley, Florida.
