Washington County, Florida Sheriff’s Office Arrests Eddie Joe Byrd of Wausau for Violation of Probation and Methamphetamine

A Wausau man was taken into custody on violation of probation and felony drug charges. 

On April 12, 2024, Washington County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an agency assist with the Florida Department of Corrections Probation and Parole Division at a residence on Fifth Ave. in Wausau. Contact was made with 48-year-old Eddie Joe Byrd, who was currently on state probation.

Officers from both agencies were given permission to enter the residence and were directed to Byrd room’s where a subsequent search was conducted. All of Byrd’s personal items including clothing and prescription medication were located in this room along with a clear straw and clear plastic bag containing a crystalized substance that later field tested positive for methamphetamine.

Byrd was arrested and enroute to the Washington County Jail for booking, he began having a medical episode and would not communicate. WCSO deputies notified dispatch they had changed course and would be taking Byrd to a local hospital for evaluation. After medical staff released Byrd, he was then transported to the Washington County Jail on charges of violation of probation and possession of methamphetamine.
