After more than 23 years of dedicated service, Mrs. Ruth Corley is retiring from her role as the Public Information Officer for the Bay County Sheriff’s Office.
For over two decades, Ruth has been the voice of our agency, and in many ways, the voice of Bay County. Through hurricanes, homicides, fires, floods, Spring Break chaos, active shooter incidents, and the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, she has been a steady and trusted source of information for our citizens. Whether delivering urgent updates or sharing good news, she has kept our community informed, connected, and safe.
Ruth began her service with the Sheriff’s Office in 2002. Since then, she has helped shape how we communicate with the public, transitioning from press releases and interviews to building a powerful online presence with over 130,000 followers. She has always been ready to respond at a moment’s notice, 24 hours a day, and has done so with professionalism, compassion, and grace.
More than just a PIO, Ruth has been a mentor, a teacher, and a friend to many in this agency and throughout Florida law enforcement. Her legacy as a communicator, leader, and public servant will have a lasting impact on our team and our community.
Please join us in thanking Mrs. Ruth Corley for her incredible service to Bay County. She will be deeply missed, but her voice and her example will remain with us always.
Thank you, Ruth. You made a difference.
