A 19-year-old DeFuniak Springs man is facing felony charges after an investigation into a shooting incident leads to him barricading himself inside a shed Wednesday in Walton County.
On Tuesday, January 6th, Walton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on Kings Lake Road following the report of a shooting that happened hours earlier. The victim reported that around 1:30 pm, she and Kaleb Freeman, 19, were involved in an argument after she told him to move out.
According to the victim, she was driving her SUV out of the driveway when Freeman fired at the vehicle with a 9 mm handgun. Freeman hit the vehicle near the passenger-side taillight. The bullet passed through the SUV and exited near the driver-side taillight.
Evidence was collected at the scene and deputies immediately began looking for Freeman.
This morning, a Walton County Sheriff’s Office deputy received a tip that Freeman was inside a red shed at his fathers on Paradise Island Drive.
Freeman initially refused to come out and the WCSO Crisis Negotiations Team was requested to respond. After negotiations, Freeman ultimately surrendered without incident and was taken into custody.
Freeman was transported to the Walton County Jail and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, shooting into an occupied dwelling, obstruction, and possession of drug paraphernalia,
This investigation remains active, and additional charges may be forthcoming.
