On Thursday, February 13, 2025, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO), received a call in reference to a vehicle that had been burned with possible human remains inside in the area of Highway 90 east of Marianna.
Once deputies and investigators arrived on scene, they found what did appear to be human remains in the vehicle.
The vehicle looked like it had been in this isolated location for an extended period of time. The State Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted and responded to the scene due to the vehicle being burned. Investigators worked into the night to try to determine the cause of the fire.
On Friday, February 14, 2025, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Mobile Crime Scene Unit responded to further process the scene. JCSO, in conjunction with the State Fire Marshal’s Office, FDLE, and the District 14 Medical Examiner’s Office are continuing to investigate the case.
Currently, there is no preliminary evidence to indicate that foul play is involved. Investigators are now working to try to make a positive identification on the vehicle and the remains found inside. This case remains under investigation, and more information will be released as it becomes available.
