Below are some of the key actions/discussions from the latest Jackson County Board of County Commissioners meeting:
• Employee Recognition – Years of Service
Chief of Corrections Jammie Jeter recognized Gina Girdler, Corrections Officer I, for 5 years of service at the Jackson County Correctional Facility.
• Resolution Supporting a Potential Publix Supermarket
The Board adopted a resolution supporting the potential construction of a Publix in Jackson County, citing improved access to groceries, job creation, and economic benefits. The resolution does not commit County funding or pre-approve zoning or land use.
• Windwood RV Resort – General Development Order
The Board denied a request for a 24-unit RV park on Pontiac Loop, following a public hearing, Planning Commission recommendation, and concerns related to safety and compatibility with the surrounding area.
• Public Access Ordinance Approved
A new ordinance was approved to clarify how the public may use County buildings and facilities, helping ensure safe, respectful, and orderly access while maintaining effective operations.
• Realtor Services Solicitation Approved (ITB 2526-06)
The Board authorized advertising for Realtor Services to help professionally market and sell surplus County-owned properties.
• Small Cities CDBG – Public Hearings Set
Two public hearings were scheduled for January 20 at 5:00 PM and January 27 at 6:00 PM as part of a grant application for a new well and elevated water storage tank.
• Jackson Blue Springs Concessionaire Extension
A one-season extension with Coldwater Excursions was approved through December 31, 2026, allowing time to prepare a long-term competitive bid.
• Attorney Interview Rankings
All six attorneys interviewed will be formally ranked at the January 27, 2026, 6:00 PM Board meeting.
