Ruth H. Thomas, 88 of Chipley, Florida Passes on March 9, 2026 at Gulf Coast Medical Center

Ruth H. Thomas, born on August 26, 1937, in Chipley, Florida, departed this life on March 9, 2026, at Gulf Coast Medical Center. She was a beloved figure whose warmth and kindness touched all who knew her.

Ruth lived a life filled with love and dedication, playing the cherished role of a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her loving son Theo Baxter and wife Pam, and her devoted daughter Johnnie Ruth Baxter. Ruth was especially proud of her grandchildren, John Baxter and wife Savannah, and Katie Butler and husband Ken, who brought her immense joy alongside her eight great-grandchildren: Jackson Butler, Liam Butler, Abby Baxter, and Emma Elizabeth Baxter.

A woman of deep faith, Ruth found great joy in her church community. She deeply loved attending services and believed in the strength that faith brought to daily life. Sunday dinners were a special tradition for her, as she always looked forward to gathering her family around the table, sharing meals, laughter, and stories.

Ruth is preceded in death by parents, Eddie Usery and Ruth Elizabeth (Johnson) Usery, her husband, John Baxter, brother Donald Eugene Usery, and sisters Edna Pearl Chestnut, Edna Myrl Pettis, and Zelda Rhodes. Their memory lives on in the hearts and minds of her family, who will remember her as a source of unwavering love and support.

Family and friends are invited to honor Ruth’s life at the visitation and funeral services to be held on March 12, 2026, at Brown Funeral Home in Chipley, Florida. Visitation will occur from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM.  Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.  Reverend Juno Douglas will be officiating the services.
