Animal Control Officers in Florida are Mandatory Reporters for Suspected Child Abuse

Posted on April 2, 2026

Animal Control Officers in Florida are mandatory reporters for suspected child abuse and neglect.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and it’s important to remember there’s a strong link between animal neglect and family violence. When animals are unsafe, there’s often someone else in the home who needs help too.

If you ever see a situation that doesn’t feel right, you can call the Florida Abuse Hotline:

1‑800‑96‑ABUSE. Protecting animals helps protect children- and protecting children helps protect animals.
