Tax Day 2026 Highlights Major Reforms in Trump’s ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’

Posted on April 15, 2026

Americans are filing taxes today under sweeping changes made permanent by President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” signed last summer.

House Republicans held morning remarks touting the legislation’s tax relief measures, including the permanent extension of 2017 tax cuts, no taxes on tips up to $25,000, and a new senior deduction for those over 65 that shields Social Security benefits from taxation.

Wall Street Journal’s Richard Rubin and Tax Foundation experts appeared on C-SPAN’s Washington Journal to discuss how the reforms simplify filing and deliver pro-worker policies ahead of the April 15 deadline. Republicans framed the day as a celebration of “historic tax relief” that puts more money in Americans’ pockets.

Critics argue the changes disproportionately benefit higher earners and add to the federal deficit. Still, early filing data suggests many taxpayers are seeing larger refunds or lower liabilities compared to previous years. The IRS reported smoother processing thanks to updated systems aligned with the new law.

As millions rush to meet the deadline, the bill remains a centerpiece of Trump’s economic agenda.
