Holmes County, Florida High School on Raptor Lockdown on Friday, May 22, 2026

Posted on May 22, 2026

Early this morning, Friday, May 22, 2026, students at HCHS reported hearing what they believed to be gunshots, and a teacher immediately activated the RAPTOR alert system.

Within one minute, deputies with the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office, along with officers from the Bonifay Police Department, were on scene with the School Resource Deputy and began sweeping the school. A complete sweep of the school and surrounding grounds was conducted, with every classroom checked, and everything was found to be safe and secure.

As a precautionary measure, both HCHS and BK8 were placed on lockdown until law enforcement confirmed there was no threat and gave the all-clear.

Sheriff Tate would like to thank the Bonifay Police Department and Bonifay Fire Rescue for their quick response and assistance. The safety of our students and staff will always remain our top priority.

A special thank you to our communications staff as well, for disseminating pertinent information clearly and concisely while maintaining a calm, professional demeanor.
