Gerald Dempsey Vickery, 79 of Cottondale, Florida went home to be with his Lord and Savior on May 23, 2026 at Jackson Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Gerald was born on June 24, 1946, in Newton, Alabama, to Ivin and Marie Vickery. He was a lifelong resident of Washington County and a graduate of Chipley High School. Gerald was a faithful member of Sapp Holiness Church in Cottondale, where he served the church in many roles throughout the years, including adult Sunday School teacher for 60 years, as well as church secretary and treasurer. He retired from the Department of Transportation in Chipley and was also the owner and operator of Transpro Consulting Firm. Gerald was a dedicated member of Gideons International. Above all, Gerald loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and treasured his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him immense joy and were truly the light of his life. Gerald will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Ivin and Marie Vickery; brother: Gene Vickery; sister in laws: Marsha Vickery, Joyce Vickery.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years: Joyce Vickery of Cottondale, Florida; son: Tony Vickery (Martha) of Cottondale, Florida: daughter: Amy Mincy (Bruce “Tip”) of Cottondale, Florida; brother: Donald Ray Vickery of Chipley, Florida; sister: Carolyn Watson (Chubby) of Chipley, Florida; grandchildren: Brooke, Dylan, Drake (Kate), Brad (Lindsey); great grandchildren: Sonni, June, Goldie, Reese, Emma, Nolan, and one on the way.
Service will be held 3PM Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at Sapp Holiness Church in Cottondale, Florida with Bro. Shane Obert and Bro. Robert Simmons officiating. Interment will follow in Sapp Holiness Church cemetery. Obert Funeral Home of Chipley, Florida directing.
The family will receive friends for visitation 6-7 PM Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at Sapp Holiness Church in Cottondale, Florida.
