Hi, my name is Leigh “Lee” Cope, and I am running for County Commissioner District 2. I was born and raised in Chipley and have lived in District 2 my entire life, where I graduated from Chipley High School (class of ‘89). I worked at FDOT for 22 years, where I was a roadway and bridge construction inspector and in the materials lab. I have also been a farmer for 26 years, growing mostly peanuts and cotton. Throughout this, I have built two mini storage businesses from the ground up, so I understand the struggles of opening a business and all the obstacles that new business owners face throughout the design, construction, and permitting processes.
My wife Michele Jenkins Cope was raised in New Hope and graduated from Vernon High School, class of ‘91. Our daughter Addie recently graduated from FSU Panama City with her Civil Engineering degree, while our son Cameron is a plumber and part-time charter boat captain. He and his wife Kayley Kowitz Cope also blessed us with our first grandson, Silas. My family and I are also active members of Holmes Creek Baptist Church.
If I am elected as Commissioner, I can promise that I will have the best interest of the people of Washington County in mind. I want our county to be a place where families and businesses can thrive. I also want to push for more transparency within our county and better help/guidance for our citizens. I will strive to be a good steward of the counties money, along with incentivizing more businesses to come to our communities.
