National Hurricane Center Monitoring Disturbed Weather in Atlantic Basin, Low Chance of Development Over Next 7 Days

Posted on July 16, 2026

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring two areas of disturbed weather across the Atlantic Basin. At this time, no tropical cyclone development is expected during the next 48 hours, and both systems have a low chance of development over the next 7 days.

Current Outlook:

Area 1 – Off the Southeast U.S. Coast

• Next 48 Hours: 10% chance of development

• Next 7 Days: 10% chance of development

Area 2 – Central Tropical Atlantic

• Next 48 Hours: Near 0% chance of development

• Next 7 Days: 20% chance of development

While there are no immediate threats, July marks the beginning of the more active part of hurricane season. Now is the time to:

Review your family hurricane plan

Check your disaster supply kit

Know your evacuation zone and shelter options

Verify your insurance coverage before a storm threatens

We’ll continue to monitor conditions and provide updates if the forecast changes.
