Carol M. Obert, 83 of Chipley, Florida Passes on September 2, 2026.

Carol was born on June 20, 1943, in Washington County, Florida, to William G. Mercer Sr. and Louie Elizabeth Hicks. She was a lifelong resident of Washington County and retired from Sunland as a medical transcriptionist. Carol was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Chipley, Florida.

To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was lovingly known as “G.” More than anything, Carol cherished her family and the time she spent with them. She leaves behind a lifetime of memories, love, and laughter that will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but the love she gave so freely will remain with her family always.


She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years: Jerry Obert; parents: William and Louie Mercer; brothers: LG Mercer; WG Mercer Jr., Carlton Mercer; sisters: Magdalene Walsingham, Evelyn Mercer. 


She is survived by her daughter: LaJuana Malloy (Wesley) of Chipley, Florida; grandchildren: Eli Malloy (Jenna), Mary Elizabeth Vardaman (Alex); great-grandchildren: Avalyn Vardaman, Issac Vardaman, Addison Claire Malloy, James Wesley Vardaman, Charlie Tate Malloy.


Graveside service will be held 9 AM Saturday, September 5, 2026 at Rock Hill Church Cemetery in Cottondale, Florida with Bro. Mike Orr officiating. Obert Funeral Home of Chipley, Florida, directing. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to Holmes County Council on Aging.


The family will receive friends for visitation from 6- 7 PM Friday, September 4, 2026 at Obert Funeral Home Chapel (731 Kirkland Road) in Chipley, Florida
